Security forces foil arms smuggling from Afghanistan

Security Forces Foil Bid to Smuggle Large Cache of Foreign-Made Arms from Afghanistan

Pakistani security forces have successfully foiled an attempt to smuggle a significant cache of foreign-made arms from Afghanistan into Pakistan.

According to credible sources, on January 8, 2025, the security forces intercepted an arms-laden truck at the Ghulam Khan Border Terminal near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. The truck, which had been modified with specially made compartments for smuggling weapons, was seized during the operation.

The recovered cache includes sophisticated foreign-manufactured arms and ammunition. Among the confiscated weapons were 26 M-16 rifles, 292 magazines for M-16 and M-4 rifles, over 10,000 bullets, 9 magazines of Kalashnikov rifles with 244 bullets, and 744 rounds of light machine gun ammunition. A significant quantity of linkers was also seized.

Sources revealed that the truck’s compartments and packaging were prepared in Afghanistan, and the concealed weapons were intended for terrorist activities in Pakistan. Security sources further confirmed that foreign-manufactured arms have repeatedly been recovered from expatriates of Fitnah-ul-Khawarij, exposing the consistent use of Afghan soil for terrorism in Pakistan.

This recovery underscores the misuse of border trade and transit systems, which Pakistan maintains to ease economic challenges for Afghan citizens. Experts highlight that such illicit activities not only harm bilateral relations but also exacerbate challenges for Afghan traders and citizens already facing economic struggles.

The successful interception by the security forces marks a significant step in curbing the flow of weapons and combating terrorism in the region.
